Jeg er interessert i forholdet mellom medier og fysiske materialer: i 2021 kom boken Digitale medier og materialitet med en grundig diskusjon av denne tematikken. Jeg er særlig interessert i det haptiske (berøring og bevegelse) knyttes til lyd.

Fremover jobber jeg særlig med den telematiske operaen Zosimos (2023-26) og (støy)instrumentet Sonic Greenhouse.

Nylig avsluttede prosjekter er Sonus (2023), Sampling av lyd og bærekraft (2022-), "Auditomosjon" (2021-23) og "Aquafoni" (2022).

Aisoy takes it away

The Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten writes that we have to learn how to live with robots. We were sort of giving it a try, watching Spain winning 3-0 against Turkey, in a  sports bar in Alicante. The Aisoy robot, which is born and produced in Alicante, seems to be happy about the result (even though this is a slightly manipulated image). No wonder; Aisoy is an emotional robot:

By the way: we named the robot Bobal, after the local grapes in the Valencia region.


Earlier the same day we had a really interesting meeting with José Manuel del Río, the founder of Aisoy, and Juan García López from Faculty of Education at Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, who has worked with robots with both teachers and students. Juan

José and Juan told us about several projects they have done with robots in schools. the most moving was achieved in a project working with children with autism. It turns out that many of these children do communicate with the robot, which makes the children's parents able to have a better and more significant communication with their children.

In more ordinary situations in schools the robot can do some tasks in ways that the teachers are not able to: the children seems to open up, and communicate in a different way, when they engage in discussions facilitated by the robot.

The day before, we were visiting Jordi Linares and his team at UPV Alcoi. Here Xavier and Jordi, in their first attempt to establish a meaningful contact with their respective Aisoy robots:

One of the Aisoy robots was left for a happy life in Alcoi, as the other is seeking new adventures in Bergen. The next step will be to experiment more with social robotics in education and health care.

We also bought a Zowi when in Spain, as long as this is not available in Norway at the moment. This is a much more simple robot than the Aisoy, and they are not meant to do the same things. However, Zowi is interesting because it is an open project, derived from "BOB" by k120189 under CC BY-SA licence (www.thingiverse.com/thing:43708). More information at diwo.bq.com.
